Winter skirt.

So this is my first attempt at a wintery skirt for this year.

This skirt is the lazy girl's version of the Insa skirt from Sewing Clothes Kids Love. I say lazy girl's, because the pattern pages that come with the book are so thin and flimsy and difficult to navigate, that I had a quick look at the pieces and then followed the directions and this is what I came up with.

I used a mixture of vintage sheets for the underskirt and yoke and some cord for the over skirt.

I sewed on some crocheted butterflies and ric rac and some pink lacy stuff.

Bren doesn't like the elasticized over skirt but I do. It vaguely reminds me of my deb dress, only my deb dress had lots of rosettes in the gathers and was a bit more tizzy.

Jazzy likes it.

I could barely get her to stop twirling during the photo shoot which is always a good sign.

I hope your Monday is a funday. XX

  10. I think you did a great job. I love the layers, the rouched outer layer gives it a lovely depth. Plus, you cannot argue with a twirling little girl, can you?! that means 'great success' for sure!

  11. Hi Kate, your daughters skirt is gorgeous, I love your interpretation of the skirt, so vintagey and fresh. I also love your photos, I'm not good with the photos and am finding out ways I can improve. I wonder if you could give me any pointers and does it matter whether you have a big flash camera or not? How do your photos turn out so lovely?

  15. I think it’s possibly because I never owned a tizzy Deb dress that I love that overskirt so! Besides girls were invented to twirl!

  18. My big girls would only ever wear twirly dresses when they were little. They weren't always in fashion so luckily I could sew. I think your new skirt is fabulous. I love how you use sheet fabrics and make them look so unique. Nice butterflies!

  23. So cute Mama. Your girls must be loving that their Mama can make all this gorgeous clothing for them. I saw the cutest skirt the other day and thought of you. It had two front pockets that were solid crocheted squares sew onto floral printed cotton. They were so cute.

  36. I love the overskirt, would love to have something similarly romantic on some of my skirts! Most of all, I keep eyeing off those boots... mmmm, what size is Jazzy? Heh heh.

  37. That's just too precious. Absolutely beautiful. You are underestimating your talents if you call it the 'lazy girls' pattern as a true lazy girl (ie.ME) wouldn't have the faintest how to do it and so would buy one ready made. Well done.

  38. Oh, I love your version of the Insa! I have the stand alone pattern as well as the book and still haven't made up the exact version, just my own interpretation of it :) I adore her red boots!
