Easter Sunday.

As a family we don't celebrate Easter. But there is a tradition around here, that every Easter Sunday all the neighbours and friends gather at Annabel's house for an egg decorate/roll/hunt followed by a feast.

We donated 30 dozen too dirty to sell eggs.

That were then painted.

The decorating of the eggs is always very serious business with discussions about aerodynamics and weather or not the colour red will make an egg roll faster.

Then we all gather at the top of the hill and roll/whack/kick those eggs all the way to the bottom. Anyone who gets their egg to the bottom in one piece feels pretty proud of themselves.

After that the kids run wild,

and the rest of us eat the feast.

Its always such a great day.

I hope you are having a great weekend too. XX

  5. My Grandma used to tell us of the egg rolls they had in England in the very early 1900s. They would decorate their eggs by wrapping them in onion skins (after writing their name on the egg with candle wax) and the egg would dye as it hard boiled. We did the onion skin decorating only as kids, but I've never heard of an egg roll competition till today. I'm glad the tradition lives on in Daylesford. It looks like it was a fantastic day for one and all.

  21. it looks like a perfect way to spend easter. i love the idea of the kids running wild. i spent a bit too much time yesterday with people who are uptight and competitive - that does not make for a nice time :(
but, the kids had fun and the time spent with my family was good.
    enjoy your easter monday,
