My creative space.

My creative space this week is dedicated to and comes with a humongous thanks to my farmer boy.

Late yesterday afternoon, he returned from a trip to Ballarat to find me losing my marbles and barely holding it together. I had had a horrible morning. I was sick of the cold, the rain, the grey, the fog, the wet, the screaming two year old, the fire mess, the dirty house, the what's for dinner, the hungry but not hungry for that two year old, the orange cake that didn't cook in the middle, the overflowing laundry, the washing hanging up to dry all over the house, the defiant two year old, bla bla bla.

My farmer boy took one look at me, tried unsuccessfully to have a conversation with me and them took himself off and cancelled his appointments for the rest of the day. He then sent me into my sewing room to sew and helped with the after school pick ups and drops off, gave them dinner, played with them and got them into bed.

And I sewed summery, flowery, happy things.

My grey mood ensured there were a few sewing disasters, the bobbins kept jumping out of my hands and rolling across the room, I snapped a few needles and sewed over some pins and the skirt above started as a dress but after I sewed the front of the bodice to the back and then tore the fabric when attempting to pull it apart, it became a skirt.

Miss Jazzy was disappointed in the skirt not dress so I started this cheery yellow one. If I can sew on a few more ruffled layers without a disaster she said she'll love me forever.

And a half made A line dress to try and work out Miss Pepper's size.

So thank you for my sanity (?) my farmer boy. We may live in the coldest and greyest and wetest part of the whole world but at least we can dress a bit springtimey.

Over to Kirsty's now to check out what the other creative peeps are up to.
Happy Thursday. X

  2. It all looks lovely Kate and I really like the way you have put Everything But the Thread in the binding on the skirt. Pleased you got some time to save your sanity yesterday - funny how all the little things together can become too much.

  3. To have a hubby that is there to take on the load when it becomes overwhelming is a special one. I'm glad you got to sew and bring some pretty spring flowers into your home. xo

  8. What an awesome man you have. His mother must have done a very good job with him. Honestly those bobbins sometimes!! The thread running out always finishes me off. Cute summery dresses, it won't be long now until they can be worn with bare legs and sunscreen. Hope you are having a better day today.

  10. Thank heaven for sanity-saving menfolk. I know what you mean about the craft not going so smoothly when you're frazzled... I'm glad you found a bit of rhythm eventually though. The colours are glorious.

  12. Do you know, I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one that has horrible, crappy days where I can barely hold it together (especially with this incessant rain! Arghhh!). Today is one of those days, so I'm cheering myself up by having a quick browse around my favourite blogs while my 1yo & 3yo are napping (...or fidgeting around in bed/requesting a drink/needing their nose blown/etc.)
Hope you're feeling better now. Lovely sewing! :)

  17. Thank God for your Farmer Boy! He sounds similar to mine...as does your two year old!!!

Engaging in the creative things we love is so nurturing for the tired soul! I'm glad you had the chance to redeem your day :).

  18. I'm not religious but 'bless you' for describing your homelife thus. Sometimes I wonder whether it's just me. Am I disorganised? Do I waste time? Am I lazy? Or do I simply have more work to do than can be fit into any given day. I'll be darned if I'm giving up the things that keep me sane - soap making, vege growing, sewing and the occasional 'read'.

  19. Your kids are so lucky getting such gorgeous handmade clothes.

Good on your fabulous man for stepping up and doing the right thing. I had a hormonal meltdown last night trying to cook dinner, and my husband was clever enough not to try to be reasonable - instead he let me have a big cry and offered to sue the big saucepan for being in the dishwasher! (He's American, so he keeps threatening to sue things to cheer me up.)

I hope today brings you some sunshine and smiles.

  37. Sing "What a man, what a man, what a mighty fine man".

It's good to know that we all have those melt downs and thank goodness, we have someone who knows not tip the boat over, but to steer it away from a tsunami.

Sleep tight and enjoy the new day tomorrow.

Oh and nice sewing amongst the chaos.

  49. Makes me feel much better that someone else is sick of the cold wet grey, lack of clothes drying that is around at the moment and that a strong willed, albeit adoreable, 2year old does not make this better. How lucky you are to have your farmer boy. I can't wait for my fly-boy to come home this weekend.

  50. I LOVE your wonky sewing! Makes me smile. Hope you're feeling cheerier today.

  52. lovely work Kate, I think the w.i.p. dress would also make a really cute summer top. It reminds of something Gidgit used to wear with pedal pushers. I lost the pattern but it is found now & will post next week :)
    Have a great weekend.

I do read every single comment you leave and appreciate it very much, but I should let you know that I can be a wee bit on the useless side when replying to comments, that's just me, everyday life sometimes gets in the way....so I'll apologise now, just in case.
