in a hurry

Hello honey bunches!

How are you going? How's your week been?

It's the first day of the autumn school holidays here. Jazzy and her cousin Remy are helping Bren make matza lasagne in the kitchen, Pepper is playing a game on her iPad, Indi is reading her homework aloud to herself in the sun room and I've got a zillion things I should be doing, but instead I'm going to spend a few minutes with you. I'm going to have to make it a quick one this week, but hopefully the pictures will tell a thousand words and it'll all work out.

I took the top photo of the cocktail tomatoes four days ago on a day we came so very close to losing them and the flowers to frost. It felt like a very narrow escape. But there's nothing quite like a near miss to remind us of how fleeting the seasons are and to appreciate what we've got while we've got it.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed picking the tomatoes that day. Even those tiny little, fiddly ones. Not to mention eating them.

Last Sunday we had a stall at the very first Daylesford Sunday Farmer's Market. It was the first farmer's market we've had a stall at in years and years and we had the most wonderful day. We sold baskets of apples and bunches of flowers, we bought lots from the other stall holders, and we chatted with so many people and can't wait to do it again this Sunday.

And these photos are from this morning when Bren and the girls rescued some of the grapes that grow on our back deck from the birds and made grape juice.

Ahhhhhhh I feel like I've got so much more to say, but it'll be dark soon and I have a million things to do.

Thank you once again to everyone who wrote kind messages to me about my blog. They really mean the world to me. I can't thank you enough. I am going to continue for now, how could I not?

I hope to be a bit more organised with my blog time next week.

I wish I could take a photo and show you how many birds are eating Bren's leftover grapes on the deck right now but I have to fly.

Happy long weekend! Happy Pesach! Happy Easter!!

Before you go why don't you tell me something fun that's going on in your life at the moment. Or something not fun but interesting. I'm all ears.

Lots of love, Kate x

  1. Happy long weekend to you too Kate x

A couple of months ago I made a commitment to read everyday no matter what. It has become a favourite part of my day. A few years ago I made the same promise to walk each day. I'm still loving walking and haven't yet missed a day. I've finally learnt that offering myself no room for excuses is the very best way to make a habit. I do wonder why it has taken me almost 40 years to learn this about myself but I love that I've got here ;-)

  2. Happy Easter to you Kate! Something big is happening in my life! We have sold our house! We will spend Easter cleaning it and next week we will move from the cold Sweden (in the north Europe), to Mallorca, a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea. Can't wait!

  3. Something not fun and not interesting - I have 8 kindy reports left to write (17 done) and then I can finally do some knitting and begin to enjoy my Easter break.

  4. Going to pick up my 18yo from university today, she has to go back Sunday night though as she has classes on Monday. The 11 yo has Monday off - she rides tomorrow and will spend some time with her new pony in the paddock for pony/rider bonding each day of the 4 day weekend. She was out with her in the pouring rain yesterday. I am trying to imagine spring, it's still very cold here in Eastern Ontario.

  5. As your session is the beginning of autumn, we are starting spring! Day tempertures of just 5 degrees and so much rain, that the country roads are flooding. However, today we spent the day as a family, eating a wonderful lamb roast lunch cooked by my son, while sharing cuddles with my 12 week old grandson, simple perfect pleasures. Enjoy your harvesting and holiday x

  8. I love our farmers market. Its so much more than just the food. Its become like a second family. As far as this post goes, I think it was perfect. Life is not always organized and just so. Thank you for your family's willingness to share their life with all of us. Seeing your post in my feed always makes me smile, even before I read it.

I'm currently in the midst of anxiety! I have decided to leave my currently (lovely) job and go it online with my creativity!
Its really scary but exciting at the same time!

  11. Look at your gorgeous bunches of flowers, how divine! Back when I grew more flowers than veggies in my garden, I would pick flowers and herbs and make little tussie mussies. I'd plonk them in a bucket of water and sit them on the staffroom table at school where I worked then. Later, I'd see them displayed in old jam jars or coffee mugs on teachers' desks. Nothing like flowers! Meg:)

  12. Hello gorgeous Kate! I've been reading your blog for more years than I care to think about but I tend to just pop now and again and catch up on all the posts I've missed since I last visited, and I'm so glad you are continuing with your bloggy yumminess. I love seeing the seasons down there through your eyes, I don't find them at all repetitive, in fact I love seeing the same things happen year after year as well as the constant changes. Please don't ever change! I love your market stall, how lovely it must be to have this so close to home.
Here we are considering the work we need to do to start an orchard this year on our 5 acres, our place was a flower farm a few years ago and seeing your beautiful flowers makes me want to also plant millions of them! Sending big hugs, as always, your way.

  13. Glad to hear that your farmers market stall went well. Not surprising though with your amazing looking produce and beautiful blooms.
Lots going on around here - following my passion around food and eating, planning on dipping my toe back into work after a long time off with the kiddos (and doing it online rather than a job, so tackling something else new there at the same time) and also just found out I got a plot at my local community garden. Feeling like a lot all at once after not much for a little while - must be something in the air or the planets or some such.
Lovely to hear your weekly news and enjoy your beautiful pictures.
    Cheers,
    Laura

  14. I'm surprised you are getting frosts already - no, wait - I should be surprised that we haven't had our usual Easter frosty mornings and that our Adelaide suburban soil is still warm underfoot. Most years, Easter Sunday finds us donning beanies and scarves for the Easter Egg Hunt.

  16. I’m stayin in your home town for a few days with my big and little love, and would have loved to visit your market stall but it’s not to be. I’ve found a stack of fab vintage sewing patterns around various shops, treated myself to a pair of shoes and had a lovely time. You live in a beautiful part of the world.

I do read every single comment you leave and appreciate it very much, but I should let you know that I can be a wee bit on the useless side when replying to comments, that's just me, everyday life sometimes gets in the way....so I'll apologise now, just in case.
